About Us
Francophone Studies
An interdisciplinary study which approaches the
research of the French speaking world through critical lenses of colonialism, media studies, women’s and gender studies, and more.
Who We Are
Created in the fall of 2025 with the aid of the Villa Albertine grant. Passages Francophones, an international and interdisciplinary student-led undergraduate journal, is dedicated to global francophone studies to showcase both scholarly research and creative works. The platform will emphasize interdisciplinarity by inviting contributions (in French and English) from students–both at the University of Cincinnati and other institutions– that explore topics in Francophone studies, as well as their intersections with multiple fields of studies. This journal will distinguish itself from others through interactive, multimedia features, including podcasts and video stories, which will complement written publications. The journal aims to amplify underrepresented voices, foster community among global contributors, and highlight the diverse relevance of Francophone studies. Through its innovative format and experiential learning opportunities, the journal aims to transform undergraduate engagement with Francophone cultures. By fostering a vibrant and inclusive community of contributors and readers, the journal will facilitate connections and dialogue across disciplines and institutions. Furthermore, it will amplify underrepresented voices by prioritizing contributions that address diversity, equity, and global perspectives. Through these efforts, the journal will transform Francophone studies into a hub for intellectual exploration, creativity, and professional development at the undergraduate level.
Our Mission
Our journal was named Passages Francophones to reflect a globalized and interdisciplinary approach to Francophone studies. We recognize that students are all on their own journeys as passagers through the Francophone world, and want this journal to provide a space for you to reflect on and engage in conversations around Francophone studies. Whether you are researching the nuances of the French language, exploring postcolonial relationships to French, or working on a sculptural project incorporating designs from a French-speaking country, allow Passages Francophones to be a haven on your voyage through the Francophone world. This journal recognizes a need for innovative approaches to revitalizing undergraduate engagement in Francophone studies. We also recognize that publishing in an academic journal can seem daunting for many students. This journal aims to break down this fear and encourage students to get involved with creative expression and research projects and to share their work in a growing collective conversation around the French-speaking world.
